How to convert text to an SRT file
Paste your text. Each line is split at sentence ends, then at word boundaries, so every subtitle has at most two lines of 42 characters. Each subtitle stays on screen long enough to read at the speed you choose, between 0.833 and 7 seconds.
The timing is estimated from reading speed, not from your audio. Use the file as a starting point, then shift it with the subtitle sync tool or adjust cues in your editor. To get timing that matches speech, transcribe the audio or video instead.
Questions
Will the subtitles match my video?
Not exactly. Plain text has no timing, so each subtitle is timed by length. For subtitles that follow the speech, use Aivently transcription, which times every line from the audio.
Can I create a VTT or ASS file instead?
Yes. Choose VTT or ASS as the output format. The same line splitting and timing are used.
Does it work for languages without spaces?
Yes. Chinese and Japanese text is split at full stops and then into lines of up to 42 characters.
